Life was good! When I was 10 I had crayons and coloring books. Life is better. My brother has a laptop, PS-2, Xbox and a 24-hour internet access. Gone are the days when I used to debate in school about social networking sites. Move on girl. It’s all about JAVA (not coffee beans or the tsunami struck island), FLASH and MMO’s. For the beginners, MMO – Massively multiplayer online game: A technique capable of supporting all the game starving nerds across the globe. Now that’s what u call big heartedness.
That’s what people were actually waiting for. Now it can be a complete India vs. Pakistan! But we need to mull over the whole scenario of online gaming (read: gambling, in certain cases) being right or wrong. Is it right for my brother to turn into a virtual mafia and fight with goons, is it all well for my best friend to wake up all night to collect riches to be the DIVA in sorority life while in real life her hair’s are begging to be trimmed. And people it has nothing to do with age. I have witnessed old aunt’s buying virtual gifts on Farmville. May be I am old enough to get a grasp of the booming industry which has the support of over 52 million internet users or maybe I should get hold of an “ONLINE MIND SPA”.
Head shots, building civilizations, conquering kingdoms, becoming the most wanted, growing their own farm, winning the biggest hand is all they care and do endlessly night and day. Becoming the god of their game is their sole aim. They try to beat their friends in every game whether its a fighting game, sporting game or a racing game. They just want to be on the top of the scoring charts. This is their top priority. If someone else is winning instead of them then, it hurts their ego which could become dangerous. This is the life of a gamer.
Getting on with the gear, playing endlessly throughout the nights has turned the so called obsession into disorder. Studies claim that excessive gaming is not a disease but a disorder. What started with only being a time pass has become the single thought of their mind. The only book they read now is the cheatbooks and walkthroughs. Their social life is the one with their buddies over the internet or the social networking websites. Night is the best time of day for them, sacrificing their sleep, they are always on a run for the title.
